How did We Determine the Best eReaders?
Narrowing a playing field of hundreds of choices down to a mere handful is never an easy task. Quality, reliability, and battery life were our primary considerations. The price gaps aren’t as wide as with some other types of products, so price didn’t factor in quite the same as with other lists.
As with past lists, it would have been easy to simply rank these titles based on my own opinions, but then I would have missed some brands that I don’t personally use, or need. And if you’re taking the time to read this, then you deserve nothing less than a definitive list. To make that happen, I pulled up 16 of the most respected lists on the internet, created a massive spreadsheet, and added every eReader from each of the sixteen lists.
One eReader was at the top of the heap in 15 out of 16 of the lists. In the end, though, I arrived at the final rankings by determining how many times individual eReaders were on the 16 lists, and what numbers each of the eReaders held on their respective lists.

Considering my kids are Apple fans, I’d find myself disowned if I didn’t include an Apple product on this list.
Truth be told, I didn’t need the threat of early emancipation to add this entry, as it earned its place here on its own, rounding out the top five quite fairly.
